Pekapeka to Mackay's Crossing Motorway

An 18km four-lane expressway that will take State Highway 1 along the Kāpiti Coast is the first of the Wellington Northern Corridor projects underway. It will separate local and highway traffic and result in safer and shorter trips to and through the Kāpiti Coast - with local and national benefits.

Wellington Smart Motorway

This project is putting the smarts into Wellington’s urban motorway. The smart motorway will operate from Johnsonville and Petone to the Terrace Tunnel. Using variable speed limits, which will be adjusted in real time in response to changing traffic conditions, the smart motorway will pace vehicles to smooth the traffic flow. This will result in safer journeys with more predictable travel times. It will also free up nearby roads for better public transport trips and for pedestrian and cyclists. The smart motorway will begin operating in mid-2016.

Oriental Bay to Roseneath Road Strenthening

To strengthen Carlton Gore Road, 42 steel rods or rock anchors, up to 10 metres long, will be used to securely anchor the support walls to the hillside. A new layer of concrete was then be sprayed over the top to make the walls stronger and reduce the risk of corrosion.

Kings Whart Refurbishment

Installation of 4 75 tonne flush mounted bollards in the wharf deck.

Johnsonville Railway Overbridge

The bigger bridge will help to reduce congestion at the intersection of Broderick and Moorefield roads, which will also be widened for extra lanes. The wider bridge includes cycle lanes on both sides, as part of providing better facilities for cyclists around the triangle, and will also allow for the planned dual railway tracks at Johnsonville Station.”

Birchville Bridge Replacement

Building a single lane steel bridge replacement for existing older bridge after that bridge suffered significant damage due to substantial flooding.

Akatarawa Bridges

This project involved the replacement of three old one-lane timber bridges with new two-lane concrete bridges on a stretch of rural road in Upper Hutt. The bridges were replaced one at a time. A temporary Bailey bridge was built next to one of the bridges while the existing bridge was demolished entirely and the new bridge built. The Bailey bridge ensured the road remained open to traffic throughout the works.

Dowse Interchange

The Dowse Interchange in Lower Hutt provides a more expressway-style section of state highway in Lower Hutt providing less friction between highway traffic and people travelling. It also provides improvements to the access of Percy Scenic Reserve at the base of Dowse Drive, improved access and parking to Petone Station and a parallel service road to the state highway to provide for vehicles access and exiting the Korokoro Industrial Area.

In conjuction with Fletcher Higgens JR Concepts provided an extensive team that undertook the majority of the construction work associated with the successful delivery of this project. Safety was a prime concern on such a large project in such challenging conditions we developed an extensive safety first policy and ensured that all of our staff were appropriately trained and qualified to be able to undertake their tasks efficently, effectively and most importantly safely.
